ehicles entering areas affected by the extension of the odd even license plate traffic policy will be escorted from the streets from Wednesday if their license plate numbers do not match the date, but the drivers will not be ticketed yet, says Jakarta Police Traffic Unit head Comr. Yusuf.

“Vehicles that enter the odd even policy area will be escorted out if they do not match [the date and license plate number]. The drivers will not be ticketed yet,” Yusuf said on Tuesday as reported by kompas.com.

The policy states that cars with license plates ending in odd numbers are only allowed to travel in certain zones on odd-numbered dates and vice versa.

Yusuf said the policy would be implemented from Wednesday until July 31, after which vehicles passing through the odd even policy area on non-corresponding dates would be ticketed.

Previously, the odd even policy was enforced only on Jl. Sudirman and Jl. MH Thamrin from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Mondays to Fridays. The expansion affected Jl. S Parman in West Jakarta and Jl. Gatot Subroto in South Jakarta, as well as Jl. DI Pandjaitan, Jl. Ahmad Yani and Jl. Perintis Kemerdekaan in East Jakarta.

In South Jakarta, it was applied to Arteri Pondok Indah from the Kartini to Kebayoran Baru intersections. It will also affect Jl. HR Rasuna Said.

In Central Jakarta, the rule affected Jl. Benyamin Sueb in Kemayoran.

Yusuf said the Jakarta Police would enlist 142 of its officers along with 100 National Police control unit (Sabhara) officers, 20 National Police internal affairs division (Propam) officers and 20 Military Police (POM TNI) officers to enforce the policy.

Jakarta Transportation Agency head Andri Yansyah said the agency would also enlist more officers in areas affected by the odd even policy. (ami)
