Before it hits Indonesian theaters on Aug. 2, Si Doel The Movie, which is based on a popular 1990s TV series, will premiere in the Netherlands.
The decision, according to the film’s director and lead actor Rano Karno, was made following a request from many people during the filming process in the Netherlands. The request was then conveyed to the movie’s production company Falcon Pictures, which approved.
He said the film would be screened in a prestigious theater in the Netherlands.
“The film will premiere at Tuchinski Theater in Amsterdam, which can accommodate around 1,000 people. We have to be proud since not many films get a chance to be screened there,” said Rano, who plans to don Jakarta’s native Betawi attire for the event.
He said some also conveyed their wishes for the film to be screened in their respective countries such as the United Kingdom and France, but it would be hard to do and decided to focus on the Netherlands and invited others to join in.
“We invited them and their response was really good, like ‘it’s okay bang, we can fly there’. Others plan to take buses and trains. We’re surprised, unbelievable.”
