The Indonesian Asian Para Games Organizing Committee (INAPGOC) has announced state-owned television station TVRI and private-owned Metro TV as official broadcasters to air the 3rd Asian Para Games (APG), which will run from Oct. 6 to 13 in Jakarta.

In the weeklong event, the two stations will air seven sports, which are badminton, para swimming, power lifting, para cycling track, table tennis, track and field and wheelchair basketball.

Besides airing programs related to the competition, Metro TV chief editor Don Bosco Selamun said full coverage of the Para Games would also be accessible on its online channels medcom.id and metrotvnews.com.

“The [Asian Para Games] is a sporting event that provides humanity values, which can inspire the audience. Athletes [participating in the event] can inspire audience as they can make achievements amid their limitations,” Don Bosco told a press conference on Monday.

TVRI president director Helmi Yahya said the state-owned TV station is committed to air programs related to the Para Games for at least seven hours per day. During the event, International Broadcasting Center will be located at the TVRI office building, which is placed across Gelora Bung Karno sporting venue in Senayan, Jakarta.

INAPGOC broadcasting director Marco Yakub said several international broadcasters, including Japan’s NHK, Thai SSS and National Geographic, had acquired broadcast license to air the event.

The organizers were in the process of finishing deals with other international broadcasters, including KBS of South Korea, for wider engagement, he added.

During the Monday’s press conference, the organizers also officially launched the 3rd Asian Para Games’ official theme song, entitled “Song of Victory”, which has been introduced to public on the Para Games’ social media accounts.

The song, written by Ezra, brings a strong message in encouraging people to break boundaries, including discrimination that is often faced by people with disability.

INAPGOC marketing and look field director Misrya Budiarsi said people with disability were involved in the creation of the theme song in order to bring genuine spirit in delivering the message.

As part of efforts in promoting the upcoming Para Games, Mirsya said the organizers had been doing simple yet effective approaches due to limited budget.

“We’ve installed various visual promotion, mostly along artery roads [in Jakarta].

“Our budget is very limited, so we’ve been trying to be more creative, including by placing three-dimensional trick arts of para athletes imagery that create an illusion of them posing on the side roads,” said Mirsya.

Indonesia has allocated Rp 1.5 trillion (US$100.8 million) in budget to run the 2018 Para Games — a small number indeed as compared to recent 2018 Asian Games that cost more than Rp 5 trillion.
