T MRT Jakarta, which operates the city's MRT, has said the identity of an alleged trespasser who vandalized its train car on Sept. 21 has been identified.
In a statement issued on Monday, MRT Jakarta's secretary Tubagus Himatullah cited a report from the Central Jakarta Police that the alleged perpetrator "could be a popular figure among street artists."
"According to the police's investigation, the vandal allegedly distributed stickers to people around the scene before the incident," Tubagus said.
A train car of the brand-new MRT was spray-painted in Lebak Bulus depot in South Jakarta on Sept. 21, sparking outrage from Jakartans who have been waiting for the operation of the service to ease congestion in the city.
The perpetrator had allegedly entered the depot, where the trains were housed and cleaned, by climbing over the wall.
Tubagus assured that the incident would not hamper the plan to launch the service, which is expected to begin commercial operation in March next year.
