he West Jakarta Public Order Agency will dismantle some shops in Jabon Market in Kembangan on Wednesday and Thursday. A warning letter that states the market is located on land owned by the city administration was disseminated a few days earlier.
Community unit (RW) 01 head Matsani said the merchants had emptied their shops.
“I suggested that they stop operating at the moment to avoid conflict. They’re still selling their goods this afternoon but will empty their shops at night,” Matsani said as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com on Tuesday.
Representing Jabon Market traders, Matsani called on the administration to prioritize assistance instead of dismantling the market right away.
Without elaborating on the plan, North Meruya subdistrict head Pangestu Aji Swandhanu said the market would be dismantled soon.
“The decision was made in a meeting on Monday and we have reported it to the mayor of [West Jakarta],” he said. (vla)
