The Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority retracted an eviction letter sent to local residents earlier this month, affirming the authority's respect for indigenous rights in the new capital area.
he Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority has revoked a letter that instructed residents near the new capital to demolish their homes and relocate within seven days.
IKN Authority social, cultural affairs and community empowerment deputy, Alimuddin, confirmed the withdrawal of the directive.
"There is no seven-day deadline, it is no longer applicable. The letter has been withdrawn, so let’s not talk about this matter,” Alimuddin said on Thursday, as quoted by kompas.com.
“There will be no action taken during the holy month of Ramadan. If necessary, [the IKN Authority] will conduct community outreach programs."
Alimuddin also addressed concerns about the forced evictions of local or indigenous communities residing in the IKN area.
He reiterated that land acquisition for the Nusaantara project followed proper procedures, including social outreach initiatives.
"Indigenous rights are protected within the IKN. There will be no arbitrary evictions. The development process will proceed, but the rights of indigenous people will be safeguarded," Alimuddin said, as quoted by detik.com.
