Switzerland has sent 30 tons of relief items to earthquake and tsunami victims in Palu and the surrounding area in Central Sulawesi. It also donated US$506,000 to the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), the Embassy of Switzerland in Jakarta said in a press release.
Switzerland’s second cargo aircraft for disaster relief landed in Palu, Central Sulawesi, on Oct. 11.
The plane carried 30 tons of relief items, such as emergency shelter in the form of 300 climate-proof tents with cooking equipment and mosquito nets as well as 1,000 tarpaulins for around 4,000 people; 30 multipurpose tents that can be used as classrooms, health centers, or storerooms; additional water purification sets to provide daily water supply for roughly 200,000 to 250,000 people; and well-cleaning tools for long-term decontamination of existing wells.
Switzerland also funded the revised emergency appeal of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) by allocating CHF 500,000 ($505,947.50) to the PMI to send the humanitarian aid to the affected population in Central Sulawesi.
Switzerland’s first aid delivery landed in Palu on Oct. 5, consisting of 900 kilograms of water purification equipment, tents and solar panels.
