The Central Jakarta Forestry Agency has chopped down 6,040 trees in the municipality since the beginning of 2018.

“From January to mid-November this year, we have cut down 6,040 trees [for maintenance purposes], especially on streets, green lanes and parks,” agency head Sabdo Kurnianto said on Tuesday, as reported by kompas.com.

“This is also to avoid trees being toppled by heavy wind and rain,” he added.

Fifty-six officials in eight teams are tasked with chopping down large trees in the municipality on a daily basis. Sabdo said the teams were always ready whenever people needed them to cut down trees prone to toppling in bad weather. (vla)
