BenQ, right partner to accelerate quality of education in Indonesia

S

peeding up the quality of education, one of Indonesia’s development priority programs, can be quite challenging amid the increasingly dynamic and diversified environment.

Spurred by digital adoption following the COVID-19 pandemic, with live streaming gaining ground, educational transformation is taking place in Indonesia. In contrast to passive learning, which is a far more teacher-centered learning method, active learning, which encourages student participation, has become an increasingly preferred option, especially when related to producing superior human resources for the future.

Therefore, it is of paramount importance to use technology in education that not only solves the current challenges but also provide additional long-term value, which can bolster the government’s endeavors to achieve the goal.

Technology solutions provider BenQ Indonesia has been focusing on accelerating the quality of education, as the company is eager to facilitate the government’s efforts to carry out the educational transformation.

For BenQ, technology is an important and fundamental aspect of teaching and the learning process.

“With technology, students have the opportunity to access information more easily and widely. BenQ also supports the development in education from low order thinking skills (LOTS) to high order thinking skills (HOTS) with its various features that can increase interactivity, creativity and innovation in the classroom,” said PT BenQ Teknologi Indonesia’s managing director, Andryanto C Wijaya, who, along with visiting BenQ Asia Pacific Corporation president Jeffrey Liang, shared the company’s vision with journalists in Jakarta on Friday.

Andryanto was referring to the BenQ Board, an interactive display designed to enhance the learning experience in the classroom/meeting room with various software, security and features that outperform other interactive displays.

The increasingly popular project-based learning in schools has contributed to the preference for BenQ Board-equipped smart classrooms, according to Andryanto.

Explaining how BenQ products helped improve the quality of teaching and learning, Jeffrey pointed out that with BenQ’s products, children had the opportunity to learn interactively, without time and space limitations. “Children can develop various abilities such as language, numeracy, social and cognitive skills, as well as physically development easily and interestingly,” he said.

The products are equipped with ClassroomCare technologies such as germ-resistant screens, eye-safe screens, air quality sensors and ionizers to improve air quality in the classroom.

“Our products are also equipped with various supporting software such as Ezwrite 6, InstaShare 2, X-sign Broadcast, AMS and DMS. With these features teachers can easily increase students’ activeness and creativity to create a superior quality of education,” he noted.

Jeffrey Liang said that although BenQ was a global brand, when it came to product marketing, the company trusted the reliable and capable local team because they knew the market needs well. “Globally, our brand message is the same, that is ‘Bringing Enjoyment and Quality to Life’, but making innovations and creating value locally should be designed to cater to local consumers’ needs,” he said.

According to Jeffrey, the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly contributed to the educational transformation worldwide, including in Indonesia, with public schools using cloud-based platform Google Education as an education solution to how teachers teach.

Teaching-wise, people’s increased familiarity with Google Education has helped schools in rural areas understand the possibilities of long-distance learning, which can be conducted through the BenQ Board-equipped smart classroom system. A cloud-based smart classroom with a BenQ Board in a rural area, for example, can mean pupils can have access to a good teacher who teaches remotely from Jakarta, according to Liang.

Upward trend

Andryanto revealed the upward trend in schools utilizing the BenQ Board or applying a smart classroom in Indonesia, with West Java being number one region, followed by Central Java and East Kalimantan.

BenQ introduced a smart classroom in Indonesia in 2018. Of the many provinces, West Java has the highest number of public schools applying a BenQ Board-equipped smart classroom system. “Since 2018, the number of BenQ Board-usage schools, especially in West Java Province, has shown an upward trend,” he said.

More schools in Central Java have also applied the smart classroom system and growing interest in the smart classroom has also shown by schools in East Kalimantan, according to Andryanto.

For private schools, the Ursuline Education Foundation Center has 21 schools and 64 educational units, 7 of which are now implementing a smart classroom system equipped with BenQ Board.

The BenQ Board series varies in size, starting from 65 inch to 86 inch, size 86 inch commonly used in public schools.

The BenQ team provides interactive content that has been adapted to the merdeka curriculum that helps teachers transfer their knowledge to students, thereby encouraging students to provide input. "This makes students enthusiastic about using tools that function as teacher assistants," he said.

Andryanto said BenQ delivered more than just much needed quality products to high-end consumers, but gave value to them, as caring for consumers was part of the company’s strong commitment. Caring for customers manifests in the form of refreshment training for teachers, IT staff and students of schools with BenQ Board-equipped classrooms.

BenQ encouraged customers to reap the benefits of the BenQ Board, including refreshment training.

Jeffrey Liang further revealed how caring for education and corporate business-related customers, part of the company’s after-sale service, manifested through training and constant upgrades of the device’s built-in software had led to the high customer satisfaction.

“We do not end with the transaction, but we view the ongoing relationship with customers in the long term. They [the customers] are buying a lifetime education service. That’s our belief,” he said.

Although BenQ’s team provided training about using the tools, teachers have flexibility in the way they taught to enable them to use the tool as confidentially and conveniently as possible, given that teachers were different in terms of the level of technology acquisition and interest. “What is important is that they use the tool that matches the way they teach,” he pointed out.

BenQ has recently launched its latest BenQ Boards, including the RE6503N2, that have been certified with a domestic component level (TKDN) of more than 50 percent. The products are equipped with an android system and device management applications, account management, will facilitate digital transformation in the government sector, especially education.

“With BenQ Board, you will get world-class interactive displays made in Indonesia,” Jeffrey Liang said.

As a leader in the technology industry, BenQ continues to present innovation and a strategy relevant with market need and consumer demand. Through collaborative and locally adaptive approaches, and a focus on quality education and commitment to TKDN certification, BenQ has proven itself as a reliable partner in coping with challenges and seizing the fast-growing technology market opportunity in Indonesia.
