The leaking pipe sprayed water onto the street, causing traffic jams.
A car hit a water pipe on Jl. Puri Indah, Kembangan, West Jakarta, on Wednesday, causing the pipe to leak and spray around the area.
West Jakarta Transportation Agency officer Zulkarnain said the car that hit the pipe was driven by a 17-year-old man, identified as Michael Kurniadi, at around 3 a.m.
“He was out of control, veering from lane to lane [before hitting the pipe].” Zulkarnain said on Wednesday, kompas.com reported.
He said the car was driving from Jl. Puri Kembangan Timur heading to Jl. Puri Indah. The car is suspected to have been going at high speed when crossing an intersection before hitting a sidewalk.
He said the car then hit the pipe, which was in the middle of a waterway. The car was stuck on steel wires that covered the pipe.
“He hit the sidewalk and street signs for Jl. Puri Indah. The signs fell and became detached,” Zulkarnain said.
He said the driver suffered no injuries but the front part of the car was damaged.
