he Jakarta administration commenced on Monday a public order operation against people who cause social and community problems (PMKS), the sale of alcoholic beverages, as well as street vendors and illegal parking.
The operation, which has been given the code name Praja Wibawa and is to last until Dec. 21, is aimed at increasing public security in maintaining order and harmony ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said.
He also stressed the need for all officers on duty to greet people and smile, so as to be friendly and polite in providing public services.
"As a form of public service improvement, officers are required to be present in the midst of our citizens, maintaining peace and order, assuring the people that their activities will go on safely, peacefully and harmoniously," Anies said during the launch of the operation at City Hall.
The operation involves 425 personnel, including 100 from the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) and the Transportation Agency, 75 Indonesian Military (TNI) personnel, 100 police officers and 150 regional public officers from the city’s five municipalities. (mai)
