Rising Indonesian star Stefer “The Lion” Rahardian will be looking to return to victory at his upcoming bout on Jan. 19 at ONE: ETERNAL GLORY in Jakarta’s Istora Senayan stadium.
It has been a tough time of late for Rahardian. The formerly undefeated strawweight suffered back-to-back losses in the second half of 2018.
Rahardian is slated to meet Robin Catalan, and the encounter is shaping up as a pivotal moment in his career.
“The Lion” burst onto the scene back in 2016 at ONE: TITLES & TITANS, winning a four-man competition to earn the title of ONE Jakarta Flyweight Tournament Champion.
After his impressive debut, Rahardian continued his hot streak, racking up victory after victory underneath the ONE banner.
“The Lion” also happens to have an ace up his sleeve owing to the fact that he trains out of Bali MMA, one of the top mixed martial arts gyms in South East Asia.
As for his contender, Robin Catalan, a former wushu and Muay Thai world champion, will provide the perfect litmus test as to whether or not Rahardian is now able to cope with high-level strikers. Rahardian does not need to outstrike Catalan, but he will need to at least nullify the Filipino’s stand-up game enough to implement his offensive game plan.
If Rahardian walks out of the cage victorious on Jan. 19, it will send a wake-up call to the rest of the strawweight division that they can no longer simply rely on their stand-up game to overcome him.
