Dangdut legend Rhoma Irama will spread the gospel of Indonesian folk music worldwide with the help of American band, Dangdut Cowboys.
According to kompas.com, Rhoma will collaborate with Dangdut Cowboys during the band’s Indonesian tour in March.
“There are musicians in a group called Dangdut Cowboys. Insya Allah [God willing], they will hold concerts in several cities in Indonesia in March,” said Rhoma.
The concerts will not be their first collaboration. Back in 2008, Rhoma and his 10-man Soneta band shared the stage with Dangdut Cowboys in a live concert in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania in the United States.
Rhoma said he wanted to invite Andrew Weintraub, a Dangdut Cowboys member, to create a new kind of dangdut.
“I want to ask Andrew how to create a ‘world dangdut’ as we already have Asian dangdut now,” he said.
The 72-year-old singer also called on young dangdut musicians to produce fresh works that would appeal to a younger audience.
“Dangdut music must not get stuck. We have to follow the trend and [create songs that] inspire people.”
