A

plastic-waste mill worker named Sariman, 36, was found dead inside a milling machine at his workplace in Sumur Batu subdistrict, Bantargebang in Bekasi, West Java on Thursday morning.

Bantargebang Police chief, Comr. Siswo, said Sariman was feeding plastic waste into the mill machine with a partner.

“He was milling waste such as plastic buckets and other stuff,” Siswo said as quoted by kompas.com. Sariman’s post was above the machine, while his partner was at the lower part of the machine to collect the output.

“Suddenly, his friend realized that the machine had stopped and there was a lot of blood coming from the machine. He climbed up to see Sariman and found him already inside the machine,” Siswo said.

He added that Sariman, who had traveled from his hometown in Blora, Central Java, to find work, was probably not physically fit at that time.

“His friend said he often stayed up late. Maybe he was sleepy and then slipped into the machine,” Siswo said.

The police are investigating and plan to interrogate the mill's owner.

“We have to ensure that worker safety is guaranteed by the employer,” Siswo said.

Sariman’s body was released to his family for a funeral. (gis)
