he Transportation Ministry has called on airports nationwide to strengthen security, following a post-election protest that triggered violence in Jakarta, resulting in the deaths of six people, while 200 others sustained injuries.
The ministry’s air transportation director general, Polana B. Pramesti, said the call was targeted at all stakeholders at the airports.
“The strengthening aims to make people feel safe and to provide convenience to users of air transportation,” she said in Jakarta on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.
The official stressed the importance of careful checks of all passengers and intensifying patrols around the airports to ensure no flight disruptions.
Polana also instructed all airlines to carefully match tickets to ticketholders and their luggage.
“Meanwhile, the regulated agents are required to check the cargo and postal documents,” she added. (bbn)
