Bali beefs up airport security after failed Central Java bombing
The airport has heightened its security measures to ensure the "safety and comfort" of all visitors to the predominantly Hindu province.

enpasar's I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport has heightened its security measures following a failed suicide bombing on Monday night in the subdistrict of Kartasura in Sukoharjo, Central Java. Although Sukoharjo is located more than 600 kilometers from the resort island, airport operator Angkasa Pura I has decided to increase the alert for all airport security.
Ngurah Rai airport general manager Haruman Sulaksono said Tuesday in a statement that the safety and comfort of all tourists at the airport was a priority, as the airport was a "vital object".
“Considering the bomb blast in Kartasura, we have heightened our security and alert status,” said Haruman.
Airport security had doubled patrols, tightened CCTV monitoring and surveillance, and increased random checks for baggage, passengers and incoming vehicles, he added.
Haruman also said that the airport had joined forces with Indonesian Military personnel and police officers to increase security.
“We request all passengers to help in reporting anything suspicious they happen to see taking place in the airport area,” he said.
On Monday night, a suicide bomber attempted to detonate an explosive device at a police post in Sukoharjo. Only the suspected bomber was injured in the failed attempt, and no casualties were reported. (dmr)
