School located within military training area in Bekasi sparks safety concerns

military commander has requested the Bekasi administration to relocate an elementary school building located within an infantry training area because of safety concerns.
Bekasi’s 202 Tajimalela Infantry Battalion commander (Danyonif) Maj. Kadek Abriawan recommended that the SD III Bojong Rawalumbu state elementary school be merged with the SD V state elementary school that is located closer to the street and outside the battalion’s grounds.
“We are worried about the safety of the students because we use this proximity for battle training,” said Kadek as reported by tempo.co on Thursday.
“There is also military equipment that can be dangerous if the students go close to it. We are asking the Bekasi administration for a solution,” Kadek added.
Bekasi Mayor Rahmat Effendi had requested the Housing and Land Zoning Agency to survey the ownership status of the land where SD III is located.
If the land is, in fact, owned by the military, then the ownership will be given fully to the battalion.
However, it the land is actually owned by the Bekasi administration, then a lend-use system should be in place between the school and the military.
Rahmat had also surveyed SDN V and considered the possibility of merging the two schools by constructing additional floors to the school building located on the side of the street.
“If that’s the case, the students of SDN III will then be able to go to school without danger and the battalion will get their own exclusive practice area,” said Rahmat. (bry)
