Four good Samaritans in Blitar, East Java, literally went out of their way, taking a detour of 5.5 kilometers on their way home from school to return a wallet containing Rp 900,000 to its owner.
he story of four seventh graders who cycled around 5.5 kilometers to return a wallet containing Rp 900,000 (US$63.42) they found on the side of the road in Blitar, East Java, has gone viral.
The wallet’s owner, 27-year-old beauty salon owner Aris Dwi Cahya, posted a picture of the four boys on her Facebook page, praising them for their good deed.
“Yes, Allah, this is real,” the accompanying caption read. “I dropped my wallet with Rp 900,000 inside. And they returned it from Klampok to Sentul, riding their bicycles even though it was so hot, praise Allah. [So young] but so honest, I am touched,” she wrote.
At the time of publishing, Aris's post had been shared more than 1,700 times and liked more than 3,800 times.
The four friends were riding their bicycles home from SMP 8 Blitar junior high school last Tuesday when they found a plastic bag containing a wallet, perfume, soap and face powder. The wallet contained an ATM card, a national identity card, a shopping membership card, a driver’s license and Rp 900,000 in cash.
“At first, we debated whether we should return the items to the owner or if we should just distribute the money among us,” 14-year-old Travis Hemar Borneo told The Jakarta Post. “In the end, we decided to return it because we didn’t want to commit a sin.”
