Complaints have been filed against the internet service disruption, including from the Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association (APJII), which criticized the fiber optic cable-cutting by the city administration without giving notice to service providers.
usiness owners have seen their operations disrupted and revenue drop by up to 50 percent recently because of the sidewalk renovation along Jl. Cikini Raya in Central Jakarta, which included cable reinstallation that caused an internet and power blackout.
Overhead cables, consisting of electricity cables and fiber optic cables belonging to various companies, were removed and reinstalled underground. The process reportedly affected businesses in the area by disrupting internet and telecommunication services as well as causing a power blackout.
Coworking space KeKini cofounder Felencia told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday that her business had to endure the internet service interruption and power blackout from Aug. 27 until Sept. 1.
The company rented a power generator to anticipate the situation. But it turned out the power outage did not happen that day, she said.
Her company also had to relocate several events booked during the period, while some clients canceled their booking following KeKini's notice that there would be a power blackout.
She added her side had to compensate customers because of the disruption to the internet, such as by giving out half-price vouchers, depending on their type of activity in the coworking space.
The worst thing was that the company saw a decline in revenue.
