hree bouquets of flowers could be seen in front of the Jakarta Planetarium and Observatory’s observation tower on March 5, showing regret that the astronomy learning facility managed by the city administration had not yet reopened, even after the revitalization of the Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM) complex was completed two years ago.

The flowers were sent by astronomy enthusiasts Astronomy Student Forum, Scientist Teenagers and Jakarta Amateur Astronomy Association (HAAJ) on March 3, and remained until several days later.

"We sent a bouquet of flowers to congratulate the Jakarta Planetarium on its 55th anniversary on March 1 and to convey our hope [that the Jakarta administration] would reopen it after being closed for four years,” HAAJ chairman Ananda Reza K told The Jakarta Post recently.

The Jakarta Planetarium was closed on March 14, 2020, for renovation. It was part of the TIM revitalization project, which kicked off on July 3, 2019, with a groundbreaking ceremony led by then-governor Anies Baswedan.

Anies issued a gubernatorial decree to appoint city-owned enterprise Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) to handle the revitalization and to manage the arts, culture and science center.

The dome of the planetarium renovation project, which was designed by prominent architect Andra Matin, was preserved.
