Jambi Health Agency said there had been 71 cases of malnourishment as of August this year.
n 8-year-old boy, Amat, not his real name, has been struggling with his health under the care of health workers in Raden Mattaher regional hospital in Jambi city since September. Last week, he could only lay down, weak. His bones are clearly visible through his skin.
The boy is a resident of a village in Kumpeh Ulu district in Muarojambi regency in Jambi province.
“Earlier, he was treated in Medan,” Sopran, the hospital spokesperson said recently.
Amat’s condition became the talk of the town after someone leaked his picture on social media. His condition, only skin and bones, prompted the press to dig into his story. Local TV station Jambi28.tv covered his story and former Jambi governor Hasan Basri Agus also visited him at the hospital after he was inaugurated as a House of Representatives legislator.
Sopran of Raden Mattaher hospital denied that the boy was malnourished. “We cannot reveal his illness, it’s confidential,” he said.
Amat is an orphan and had been taken care of by his grandfather.
When The Jakarta Post visited Amat to see his condition recently, a woman was accompanying the boy. Amat was moaning weakly.
