he results of the second autopsy of Brig. Nopryansyah Yosua Hutabarat, who was reportedly killed in a shootout at the Jakarta residence of a high-ranking police official, will only be available in the next four to eight weeks, according to a team responsible for the process.
Ade Firmansyah, head of the team and also chairman of the Indonesian Forensic Doctors Association, said the team completed the exhumation on Wednesday in Muaro Jambi regency, Jambi.
“We don’t want to be hasty in the process, so we predict the results will be available four to eight weeks from today,” Ade said.
The team examined Yosua’s body for six hours on Wednesday at Sungai Bahar General Hospital in Muaro Jambi, about two kilometers from where his body was buried in his hometown.
According to Ade, the body had been treated with a formaldehyde-embalming agent before it was buried by the family and had started to decompose when exhumed.
“However, we believe that there were several wounds. We will continue with further investigation,” he said.
According to a previous police account, Yosua – also known as Brig. J – was killed in an exchange of fire with Second Agent (Bharada) Richard Eliezer Pudihang Lumliu – also known as E – at the residence of the police’s internal-affairs chief, Insp. Gen. Ferdy Sambo, in Jakarta on July 8. Elezier and Yosua had been on duty as a personal secretary to Ferdy and chauffeur to Ferdy’s wife, respectively.
Ade said the team focused on the wounds, which Yosua’s family suspected were not gunshot wounds.
According to the police, Elezier confronted Yosua after hearing screams coming from the bedroom of Ferdy's wife Putri Candrawathi, who claimed Yosua had tried to assault her. Police said Yosua drew his firearm first and fired at Elezier, triggering a gunfight between the two that left Yosua dead at around 5 p.m. on July 8.
Yosua's family suggested that his death had been premeditated, given the many lacerations and bruises they claimed to have found on his body.
The police have launched a full investigation into allegations made by Yosua's family. The National Commission for Human Rights (Komnas HAM) has also launched its separate probe.
The National Police chief suspended Ferdy, Internal Security Bureau chief Brig. Gen. Hendra Kurniawan and South Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Budhi Herdi Susianto following the controversy over the alleged shooting death. (dre)
