The excitement over the new elevated road has caused traffic congestion on Saturday and Sunday.
he Jakarta - Cikampek elevated toll road has experienced gridlock in the last few days, as holidaymakers line up to use the new road.
The longest elevated toll road section in the country, Jakarta-Cikampek II, spans from South Bekasi to West Karawang, both in West Java.
Designed only for private vehicles, the elevated section is expected to reduce the burden on the existing Jakarta-Cikampek toll road.
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo inaugurated the 38-kilometer-long elevated toll road on Dec. 12. The road’s construction took 2.5 years and cost Rp 16.23 trillion (US$1.16 billion).
The elevated road has been open to the public since Dec. 15 and is free of charge for the holiday season.

According to state-owned toll operator PT Jasa Marga, up to 378,165 vehicles left Jakarta on the Jakarta - Tangerang toll road, Jakarta - Bogor toll road, and Jakarta - Cikampek toll road on Friday and Saturday.
