The company’s technical and facility director Yoga Adiwinarto said the trial run would be carried out as soon as the company acquired vehicle registration certificates (STNKs) for the legal operation of the electric buses.
City-owned bus operator, PT Transjakarta plans to conduct a trial of two electric buses in mid-January.
The company’s technical and facility director, Yoga Adiwinarto, said the trial run would be carried out as soon as the company acquired vehicle registration certificates (STNKs) for the legal operation of the electric buses.
"We hope we can acquire STNKs by mid-January so we can start operating the electric buses, maybe for the GR1 route," Yoga said on Monday, as reported by Tempo.co.
Route GR 1 buses go from Senayan Traffic Circle in South Jakarta to Harmoni in Central Jakarta and are feeders for MRT trains. Yoga added that residents would be able to ride the buses for free.
Yoga said the company had, so far, only conducted a pre-trial of the electric buses, meaning passengers could only use the buses in tourist locations. As the electric buses had not yet acquired STNKs, they could not be operated on the road.
He said the current plan required permission from the transportation agency, which would ultimately determine the route for the electric buses.
Previously, Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan had expressed his wish to change all Transjakarta buses to electric buses. He launched three electric buses in April to serve visitors to the National Monument, Central Jakarta, in a pre-trial program.
Two of the three electric busses operating in Monas were produced by Chinese electric automaker BYD Company Ltd, and the other was produced by Indonesian bus manufacturer PT Mobil Anak Bangsa. (nal)
