recently opened upscale KFC outlet in Senopati, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, has been sanctioned twice for violating COVID-19 health protocols amid the transitional period for large-scale social restrictions (PSBB) in the city, local authorities have said.

The restaurant, KFC Naughty by Nature, is located near the Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD) and offers high-end alternatives to the usual fast food fare, including a kale Caesar salad, zucchini gratin and baked butternut pumpkin.

Jakarta Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) officers ordered the restaurant to close down for 24 hours starting at 9:00 p.m. on Friday, the day the outlet first opened, following reports that the restaurant exceeded the 50 percent dine-in capacity limit mandated by the PSBB.

However, less than 24 hours after the first sanction, the Satpol PP had to issue a second sanction on Saturday night as it was still in violation of health protocols.

According to Kebayoran Baru district head Tommy Fudihartono, the restaurant had failed to check customers’ temperatures, nor did it provide hand-washing facilities at the outlet’s entrance.

“It was told to shut down for another 24 hours last night,” Tommy Fudihartono said on Sunday as quoted by tempo.co.

Following the shutdown, the restaurant posted an apology through its Instagram account on Saturday.
