he National Police have made it possible for the public to apply for an international driver’s license online and avoid physical contact amid COVID-19 concerns.
As reported by kompas.com, applicants for the service will no longer be required to be physically present at the National Police Traffic Corps office as they will have the option to have their international driver’s license delivered directly to their home.
“The National Police Traffic Corps has adapted to the new normal, no longer requiring applicants to visit the Traffic Corps’ International Driver’s License unit,” Traffic Corps head Insp. Gen. Istiono said in a statement on Saturday.
The National Police launched the online service in February. Previously, applicants had to register themselves manually by visiting the police’s international driving permit center in South Jakarta.
In a short interval between February and the start of the COVID-19 outbreak in the country in March, the online feature, however, only enabled applicants to register and pay for international driving permits online as they would still need to visit the police’s international driving permit center in South Jakarta and bring the required documents and copies of their registration form and payment for finalization of their international drivers’ licenses
The online application service is available at siminternasional.korlantas.polri.go.id.
After completing the personal data form, applicants will be required to upload a number of documents, including a photo of their valid driver’s license, ID card, passport, their most recent photo set against a blue background, and – for foreign nationals – a copy of a permanent stay permit (KITAP).
Applicants will then have to choose whether to pick up their international driver’s license physically at the Traffic Corps office or have it delivered directly to their door via courier.
Once every digital form is completed and approved, they will be informed of the bank details needed to pay the online application fee.
Afterward, the online application must be confirmed electronically.
“If every requirement is [fulfilled], our officers will print the international driver’s license and have it ready for pickup in accordance with the applicant’s preferred [delivery method],” Istiono said.
