Spanish orchestra group to visit Pramuka Island and Jakarta

Before Pramuka Island, the group will make a stop in Jakarta to perform several activities such as a music concert at Sarinah Building.

fter visiting Lake Toba for four days from July 26 to 30, Spanish orchestra group Vinculos is planned to visit Pramuka Island on August 7.

The group was invited to come to Indonesia by the Education and Cultural Ministry with the intention to encourage cultural, social and educational exchange between the two countries.

“This is our contribution to the [10 priority] destinations that have been set by President Joko Widodo and tourism minister Arief Yahya. I hope their presence can bring a lot of benefit including promoting Indonesian tourism to the world,” said Education and Cultural Ministry’s Culture director-general Hilmar Farid.

Some of activities in the Madrid-based group's agenda include a performance and jam session with the locals and exploring Dolphine Island, Perak Island and China Island.

“We’re grateful to get the honor as the first country in Asia for this project. Introducing the many cultures of the two countries, Indonesia and Spain, through attraction, interaction, art and cultural education will certainly make an impact on the tourism,” Hilmar added.

Before Pramuka Island, the group will make a stop in Jakarta to perform several activities such as a music concert at Sarinah Building, performance and musical collaboration with Trust Youth Orchestra at Plasa Insan Berprestasi, flash mob in car free day area and workshop.

“Jakarta was chosen because it’s the melting pot of so many ethnic groups in Indonesia. Through this meeting, we hope we can broaden the networking possibility for cultural communities in Jakarta,” told Hilmar.

During their time in Lake Toba, Vinculos group will conduct a music workshop, donating and repairing musical instruments as well as donating books.

On July 29, the group is scheduled to perform a concert at the Amphitheater it Del, a symphony concert that showcases a collaboration between Vinculos and local artists.

Minister for education and culture Muhadjir Effendy along with the wife of coordinating minister for maritime affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan are set to attend the concert. The concert will also welcome 600 students from elementary schools, middle schools and high schools in Tobasa Regency.

Apart from that, Vinculos is also planning to shoot a music video during a concert to showcase the beauty of Bakkara village.

Vinculos is an initiative made by Siero Chamber Orchestra (OCAS) Spain who champions for social and cultural integration through music. The group has performed in 12 countries, conducted more than 300 music concerts using more than 150 musical instruments and held about 100 workshops and masterclasses. (asw)
