ollowing the appointment of Thousand Islands regency as one of the strategic national tourism areas, Regent Budi Utomo has promised to develop the isles’ tourism potential.
The administration will discuss strategies to develop the tourism potential at the regency’s upcoming Development Planning Forum (Musrenbang).
“The establishment of our islands [as a strategic tourist spot] has provided a basis for us to compile tourism-related administrative programs. We want to actualize our visions in having quality tourism,” Budi said as quoted by tempo.co on Wednesday.
One of the factors currently hindering progress in tourism in Thousand Islands is the lack of capacity, with the regency only able to accommodate around 100,000 people.
In order to overcome the problem, the administration plans to conduct agrarian reform, which could answer the need for more settlement areas as well as solve land disputes in the regency, Budi said.
“Many local residents obtained plots of land without proper certification. Therefore, land administration should also be improved,” he said, adding that his administration was planning to offer a land certification program for people who have resided on the isles for more than 20 years. (dea)
