inister of state-owned businesses Rini Soemarno alongside with president directors of BTN, BRI and BNI banks and Telkom visited the Prambanan Jazz event on August 19 at the Prambanan Temple complex.

“Prambanan Jazz is quite good, it needs to be developed and expanded in order to support national tourism. The tourism industry has to be supported because it is one of the country’s incomes,” said Rini.

Rini admitted that she came to witness the popularity of this annual event, especially since Telkom and BRI supported it.

“This is a form of support as well as seeing the popularity of this event,” Rini added.

Prambanan Jazz was held for three days from August 18 to 20 and featured plenty of renowned local and international musicians. On the second day of the festival, the festival featured a performance from British musician Sarah Brightman.

According to tourism minister Arief Yahya, by holding this event Indonesia gained two advantages, first was the direct impact of attracting tourists to explore Prambanan, Borobudur and Ratu Bokor. The second was the indirect impact, meaning that the event provided media exposure on international jazz musicians who performed in Indonesia.

“The media value is very huge and 60 percent of visitors are likely to come back again in less than a year,” said Arief. (asw)
