he performance of Indonesian singer Vina Panduwinata marked the closing of Ijen Jazz 2017 that was held on Oct. 7 at Jiwa Jawa Resort Banyuwangi.

The 58-year-old singer performed for an hour, belting out eight songs, including “Burung Camar” (Seagull) and “Surat Cinta” (Love Letter).

Vina performed the two songs with drummer Ikmal Tobing, the son of notable Indonesian drummer Jelly Tobing.

“I’ve been collaborating with Ikmal and DJ Goeslann for two years,” told Vina.

The closing event also featured other jazz musicians, such as Sri Hanuraga Trio who did a duet with Dira Sugandi, Tropical Transit Nonaria who performed together with Bonita, Luanada feat. Matthew Sayeres, Bintang Indrianto Festival, local jazz musicians and members of Banyuwangi Student Jazz group.

“The performance of Banyuwangi high school students was good for a high school standard,” said Shinta, one of the audiences from Surabaya.

Mountain Jazz founder Sigit Pramono said that Ijen Summer Jazz is set to be held annually.

Last August, the city hosted Mount Bromo Jazz 2017 at the same place as Ijen Jazz 2017, meanwhile the Ijen Jazz 2017 event was held for two days on Oct. 6-7. (kes)
