Batam International Open Piano Competition 2017 is currently ongoing in Batam with participants coming from countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, China and Vietnam.
The event is being held for two days from Oct. 21 - 22nd.
The second day of the event will feature a workshop and concert for the winners.
Not only does this event serve as a platform for young pianists to compete, it also serves as a tool to promote the tourism industry in Indonesia. Additionally, Batam is closely located to Singapore and Malaysia.
“Our target is international participants and so far more than 50 percent of the participants are from overseas,” said the committee’s head Eleonora Aprilita.
Eleonora also said that these participants are not alone during the competition, they are accompanied by their family members.
“For example, we have only 10 participants from Vietnam, but more than 30 people came with them. They’ve been sightseeing around Batam and make use of the tour and travel service to arrange their itinerary,” she added. (asw)
