tate-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) is applying promotional rates for group bookings on limited dates throughout April and May, as it aims to increase train occupancy rates on weekdays.

"During weekdays, train occupancy headed east is between 70 and 90 percent, while westward it is 90 percent on average. We want to target 100 percent occupancy," Joni Martinus, spokesperson for KAI's Operation Area (Daop) II Bandung in West Java, told tempo.co on Thursday.

Joni said the company was applying a 15 percent discount for group bookings of at least 20 people over the next two months.

He said the deal was available on routes to Bandung, Yogyakarta, Semarang in Central Java and Banyuwangi and Surabaya in East Java. Trains in this discount program include the Lodaya, Argo Wilis, Mutiara Selatan, Malabar, Harina and Ciremai.

"The public can take advantage of this for holidays," Joni said.

The discounts will apply on April 5, 9, 10, 11, 12, 16, 17, 18, 19, 23, 24, 25 and 26, and May 2, 3, 7, 8, 14, 15, 16, 17, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 30.

Joni further said the special group booking prices could only be obtained at the Daop II, at the office of the Passenger Transportation Manager.

Passengers must sign an agreement and pay an advance of 25 percent of the total order. "The names on the printed tickets cannot be replaced but tickets can be canceled, should there be any change of schedule," he said. (liz/wng)
