raveling out of town by train may be a good choice for those seeking a midweek getaway in March and April, when state-owned railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) is issuing special rates.

As kompas.com reported, KAI's will apply the promotional rates on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in March and April under its "Weekday Holiday" program.

The special prices range from Rp 70,000 to Rp 220,000, depending on the destination, and will apply to all rail travel from the capital city to destinations such as Bandung, Cirebon, Cilacap, Tegal, Kutoarjo, Yogyakarta, Semarang and Blitar.

March travel dates that are eligible for the special ticket prices are13, 14, 20, 21 and 27. The applicable travel dates in April are 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24 and 25.

KAI spokesperson Edy Kuswoyo said a statement that travelers would not need to queue at train station counters to obtain the promotional tickets, as all tickets were available for online purchase 90 days, or three months, prior to the planned date of travel.

"It is very simple, passengers can buy tickets through the KAI application, website or external channels, such as at nearby mini-markets," said Edy.

Passengers must ensure that their bookings accurately reflect the details on their identity cards, or the tickets would not be valid for travel. (liz/wen)
