or those of you residing in Jakarta, do you find yourself continually pondering over the same weekend getaway spots? Between Bogor, Bandung and the Thousand Islands, we have heard them all.

If you are looking for an fresh adventure within driving distance of the capital, Sukabumi, West Java – potentially the next Bandung – might be your best bet. The city is approximately 100 kilometers south of Jakarta, or a three to five hour drive away.

Pasir Datar

Situated in Caringin district, Gunung Gede zone, the hilly highlands offer visitors a breathtaking panorama of pine forests, tea farms and extensive plantations. There are various affordable accommodation and villa options suitable for weekend nights with your loved ones.

Kasepuhan Ciptagelar

Kampung Gede Kasepuhan Ciptagelar, previously called Kampung Ciptarasa, sits on the steep slopes of Mount Salak in Cisolok district. Enrapture yourself in its well-retained and established historical ambiance and cultural traditions. Various geothermal explorations and projects have been set in this district due to its well-known hot springs and geysers. The Cisolok Hot Springs are located about 10 minutes from the village.

There are several routes to get to the village. A common one goes through Sukabumi toward Pelabuhan Ratu. Travelers must be in shape as there are bound to be rocky roads along the way.

Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu Geopark

Recognized by UNESCO in 2015 as a national geopark, this place boasts an enchanting and panoramic view of twin waterfalls that stand 19 meters tall, basins that resemble caves and an abundance of flora and wildlife.

There are ample public facilities and amenities – parking lots, toilets, prayer rooms and convenience stores are accessible in the area. You are also encouraged to visit the nearby Palangpang Beach, which offers scenic coastlines.

Curug Sentral

Sukabumi is known for being a haven of waterfalls. Curug Sentral is a popular site that offers a beautiful view of water cascades, making this mountainous area a must-visit site. Curug Sentral is situated in Kampung Pondok Beureum, Jalan Jayanegara Indah Kabandungan.

We recommend that travelers take private vehicles as public transportation that heads to the site is hard to find.

Situ Gunung Lake

A less than three-hour drive from Jakarta will bring you to this very Instagrammable lake located at the foot of Mount Gede and right among the lush forests of Mount Gede Pangrango National Park. The park is a must-visit for hikers and nature lovers as it offers various hiking trails, spacious camping grounds, the Curug Sawer waterfall and, of course, the majestic Mount Gede itself.

While you are there, venture into the expanse of the lake by renting a bamboo raft.
