The Maluku Archaeological Agency has investigated several ancient civilization sites in Maluku province.

According to Antara, the investigation lasted for 28 days from Oct. 18 to Nov. 10.

The focus sites were Lokki and Alang Asaude in Seram Island, Alaka in Haruku Island, Ihamahu and Siri-Sori Islam in Saparua Island and Kaitetu and Morella in Ambon Island.

“We recorded the findings because we need a blueprint of the area for complete reconstruction," agency research coordinator Muhammad Al Mujabuddawat said.

He added that investigation at the Alaka site was difficult because locals still considered the place sacred. However, Mujabuddawat said the team had made several complete findings, especially at the Alang Asaude site, which has an ancient mosque and some type of bastion.

“We referred to an old map, and the location corresponds with the structured data,” he said. “It’s shaped like a very tall bastion with a balcony that seems to have been used for defenses."

At the other sites, they found relics such as dolmens (stone “table” tombs), menhirs (standing stones), traditional stone fortress arrangements, earthenware, weapons and ancient headstones. (iru/kes)
