Aceh has its eyes set on attracting at least 150,000 foreign and 3 million domestic tourists this year.

As reported by disbudpar.acehprov.go.id, Aceh Tourism and Culture Agency head Jamaluddin said the province also had increased its target of attracting Muslim tourists to Aceh from 35,000 in 2018 to 40,000 in 2019, "which is a reasonable move as Aceh was named World's Best Halal Cultural Destination in 2016 by the International Travel Week [ITW]," he said.

"This award from ITW will continue to serve as our benchmark and commitment together with stakeholders and tourism players," Jamaluddin added.

The agency soft-launched Aceh Calendar Event 2019 on Monday and stated that it would continue to adopt branding, advertising and selling strategies while highlighting the principals of environmental preservation and strengthening the values of Aceh's Islamic culture.

Included on the calendar event were 100 tourist attraction events divided into two segments: 10 Aceh Top Event 2019 and 90 Aceh Highlighted Event 2019.

"Hopefully the more events we hold the more we are able to promote various destinations in the region," said Jamaluddin, adding that he expected the 100 events to boost Aceh's position as a tourist destination on the western tip of the archipelago that Indonesia can be proud of. (kes)
