he government has expressed its disappointment with Russia's decision to temporarily ban the export of Indonesian coconut products.
Edi Prio Pambudi, undersecretary for coordination of international economic cooperation at the Office of the Coordinating Economic Minister, said he had discussed a ban on Indonesian coconut products with Russia’s deputy minister of economic development, Dmitry Volvach, according to news agency Antara.
“Indonesia regrets the decision by Russia to temporarily ban the export of Indonesian coconut products,” Edi was quoted by Antara as saying on Thursday, a day after he had met with Volvach on the sidelines of the Kazan Halal Expo 2024 in Kazan, Russia.
Edi added that the Indonesian government had taken several “corrective steps” and asked Russia to lift the export ban.
He did not elaborate on those steps but said Indonesian coconut oil products already adhered to international standards.
The Russian Embassy in Jakarta did not immediately respond to The Jakarta Post’s request for comment.
When asked for comment, Vitaly Stogov, head of the Jakarta office of the of Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in ASEAN, told the Post on Friday that efforts of the Indonesian government to intensify bilateral economic cooperation, as evidenced by the Indonesian delegation's visit to the business forum in Kazan, were welcomed by Russia’s business community.
