aiwan’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has flagged Indonesian instant noodle brand Indomie, specifically the Rasa Soto Banjar Limau Kuit variant, after detecting traces of ethylene oxide, a chemical classified as hazardous and carcinogenic.

“Testing for ethylene oxide and its reaction product 2-chloroethanol in food showed that the seasoning packet contained 0.1 mg/kg of ethylene oxide,” the Taiwan FDA reported.

The inspection was launched following a consumer complaint on Aug. 6, and the findings were announced on Sept. 9, confirming that laboratory tests had detected the presence of ethylene oxide in the product.

“According to the Pesticide Residue Tolerance Standards, ethylene oxide must not be detected. This case does not comply with Article 15 of the Food Safety and Sanitation Management Act,” the Taiwan FDA said.

The agency also urged the public to avoid all Soto Banjar Limau Kuit variants, whether purchased in Taiwan or brought in from overseas.

“The non-compliant product in this case shall be returned or destroyed in accordance with regulations,” it added.
