uthorities at Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta detained eight containers of zinc powder shipped from Angola over radioactive contamination with cesium-137 (Cs-137), marking the fourth such interception involving the same importer, a government task force said on Monday.

Bara Krishna Hasibuan, head of diplomacy and communications with the Cs-137 hazard response task force, said port authorities had halted the shipment on Nov. 14 and were holding the containers pending administrative procedures for reexport.

“This is the fourth time authorities at Tanjung Priok [Port] have blocked contaminated zinc powder from entering the country, and all shipments were imported by the same company,” Bara said.

The zinc powder, an industrial material used in metal processing, was imported by PT Luckione Environmenl Science Indonesia, a metal company based at ModernCikande Industrial Estate (MCIE) in Serang, Banten.

Bara said the earlier contaminated shipments linked to the same company originated from the Philippines.
