Indonesian superapp Gojek has strengthened its position as Southeast Asia’s leading superapp by integrating the operations of its application across four Southeast Asian countries: Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

At present, Gojek operates under different names in different countries. In Indonesia and Singapore it operates under the name Gojek, while in Thailand it operates under the name GET and in Vietnam it operates under the name GoViet.

But that is about to change. Effective August 2020, the superapp will change the names of these overseas operations to simply Gojek.

The operational integration of Gojek’s applications across the four countries is part of the superapp’s global effort to improve the experience of its users. But the integration goes beyond just name unification. It will make it possible for Gojek users from Indonesia to use the same app to access any of Gojek’s services in Thailand, without having to download the GET application.

According to an official release made available to The Jakarta Post on Friday, the integration will also boost Gojek’s competitive edge as Southeast Asia’s leading superapp. With the latest development, developers in Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries will be able to innovate more rapidly with Gojek’s various services, as they are already working under the same system.

Gojek cochief executive officer Andre Soelistyo said the integration of the Gojek application across the four Southeast Asian countries was aligned with the superapp’s mission to make daily life easier for its users, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the toughest times we have been through in recent history.

“In addition, the integration is also part of Gojek’s long-term business strategy to enhance the experience of everyone in our ecosystem, today and in the years to come,” Andre said, adding that Gojek’s latest move also reflected its deep commitment to consumer experience innovation.

Andre went on to say that the integration would mark an important milestone in Gojek’s long-term strategy, which the superapp announced last year, while demonstrating the company’s commitment to strengthening its focus on its customers, developing its international market and ensuring sustainable capital allocation.

“We strive to continue innovating to develop our ecosystem in each of Gojek’s operational regions,” he explained.

According to Gojek cochief executive officer Kevin Aluwi, Gojek was eager to launch its latest technological platform and strengthen its already close collaboration with its GET and GoViet team members in Thailand and Vietnam, respectively.

“By unifying our technology, Gojek will be able to provide a better experience to its users, bringing the new feature and product to the market in a much more rapid way, accelerating the service scale in various countries, while, no less importantly, helping its partners discover additional income opportunities,” Kevin said.

“We are optimistic about Gojek’s future and will continue to follow our vision and focus on Gojek’s development in Indonesia and Southeast Asia in the years to come,” he added.

Since its launch in 2015, Gojek has grown exponentially into a superapp with more than 170 million users.
