GoTo Fintech Unit president, Hans Patuwo, is on a mission to help Indonesians overcome financial barriers through his passionate and purpose-driven leadership. Hans, who also holds the title of GoTo Director, joined the GoTo ecosystem in 2018 as Gojek COO when he jumped at the opportunity to be able to positively impact the lives of millions of driver partners, merchants and users.  In 2020, he was appointed CEO of GoPay where he used his international experience working across three different countries (United States, China, Indonesia) to drive collaborations with Tokopedia, Gojek and other strategic partners such as Bank Jago, to offer more financial services needed by all Indonesians.

Hans’ teams credits the growth, strength and transformation of GoPay to his ability to find solutions to the most difficult problems.

Kelvin Timotius, head of GoPay User Spend, says, “Hans is very focused on problem-solving. His mantra is 'our loyalty is always to the problem statements and to our users'. He drives us to focus on answering the problems faced by users and providing holistic solutions.

Kelvin adds, "Hans knows that to provide users with the best products and services our internal coordination must run smoothly. This is evident when Hans facilitates better collaboration among all departments, from business, products, engineering, marketing, to compliance, with the same spirit: solving customer problems. The end result is that we were able to integrate GoPay services on Tokopedia in less than six months in 2021. In addition, under Hans' leadership and thanks to the full support of the Tokopedia team, GoPay quickly became the number-one payment method on the Tokopedia platform and the number-one digital wallet in Indonesia.”

Today, Indonesia is at an exciting time in history where fintech, in partnerships with banks, government and other key stakeholders, can break financial barriers that have stopped millions of unbanked and underbanked from not being able to take advantage of life-changing financial products and services. These barriers include limited access to financial services, high transaction costs, high lending costs, lack of financial literacy, lack of financial management skills and the inability for individuals to develop a credible credit history.

Hans is a leader with the skills able to maximize the benefits of fintech for all Indonesians. He prefers working tirelessly behind the scenes developing strategies and building reliable teams and is recognized for his focus on customers and productivity optimization. Most importantly is that, in addition to his problem-solving skills, Hans is recognized for his readiness and willingness to listen.

Hans says, “When we talk to our driver partners, our merchant partners and also our users, it is impossible not to be inspired, and not to be moved to action. Their determination to improve the welfare of their families is extraordinary, from deaf driver partners who write messages on their backs instructing passengers how to communicate with them, to mothers who start work at 5:30 in the morning while carrying their babies. They are the ones who inspire me every morning to strive for good business decisions and to make things even easier for them."

Hans humbly acknowledges that it is his team and GoTo partners and users who inspire him to make a difference. Hans recognizes his interactions with driver partners, merchant partners and users have left a profound impact on him. Their relentless pursuit of betterment for these partners and their families has moved him to action.

Hans is focused on taking GoTo to new heights fueled by real positive impact on Indonesians.

Today, GoTo is in the right position to become the largest digital ecosystem that not only generates profits but also brings the most benefits to the daily lives of Indonesians. Hans says, "I’m very proud that GoTo has contributed significantly towards Indonesia’s economy. I am very appreciative of the hard work that has been put into GoTo so far by both our current teams and those who have gone before us; however, there is a lot more to be done. We will work hard every day to keep earning the trust of our consumers, partners and society. We have to earn the right to achieve our aspiration of making the lives of Indonesians easier and better.”
