Indonesian superapp Gojek, a leader in the Southeast Asian market, has just introduced its latest initiative, promoting health, hygiene and safety protection amid the public’s readiness to resume their activities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dubbed the jaga kesehatan, kebersihan, dan keamanan (maintaining health, hygiene and safety, or J3K) campaign, it familiarizes people about the health, hygiene and safety protocols that Gojek is applying across its ecosystem, to safeguard both its partners and users from the coronavirus.

The J3K campaign also demonstrates Gojek’s commitment to supporting the productivity of its customers, and driver and merchant partners, enabling them to resume their activities in a productive yet safe, comfortable and healthy manner.

Gojek’s J3K campaign has also been recognized by the government, particularly the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry and COVID-19 impact mitigation task force spokesman Ari Juliano Gema.

“We appreciate the steps that Gojek has taken as an industry player that is highly responsive to the pandemic situation, while also taking concrete action to prove how the company prioritizes the health, hygiene and safety aspects of its services to the public at large,” Ari said.

“This is aligned with our efforts to revive the national economy, including the tourism and creative economy sectors, while still prioritizing public health,” he added.

Gojek chief of corporate affairs Nila Marita said that the company’s campaign marked a continuation of the already ongoing health protection efforts that the superapp has taken since the government announced the first COVID-19 case in the country.

“Since the beginning of this pandemic, Gojek has been adjusting its operations to prioritizing the health aspects of their services. Entering a new way of living [due to COVID-19], Gojek strives to keep creating new innovations to support the public in conducting their daily activities while prioritizing health, hygiene and safety,” Nila said.

She went on to say that Gojek was making these initiatives available without incurring any additional costs to its users due to the superapp’s conviction that everyone deserved to enjoy a sense of safety and comfort, especially during the coronavirus outbreak.

Promoting healthy lifestyle

In this pillar, Gojek has made a regular body temperature check compulsory for its driver partners, who can easily undertake this measure in 200 of Gojek’s Posko Aman J3K (J3K command centers) spread across the country; the protocol is also mandatory for GoFood merchant partners.

Gojek has also consistently informed its customers about its various COVID-19-related healthcare procedures via the shuffle cards in users’ smartphone applications.

“Besides that, Gojek is currently focusing on developing its GoMed services, which make it possible for users to make appointments for COVID-19 rapid tests; the GoMed services also allow users to purchase their multivitamins and drugs online and make appointments for medical consultations with their doctors and various other health services in collaboration with the healthcare app Halodoc,” Nila said.

Ensuring the ecosystem’s hygiene

The hygiene pillar of the program ensures that the entire Gojek ecosystem maintains the highest standard of cleanliness in its operations.

Besides the body temperature checks, Gojek’s J3K command centers also provide hygiene facilities – such as face masks, hairnets, hand sanitizer and disinfectant that they can use to clean their helmets and vehicles, and the installation of Protect Shield for four-wheeled vehicles used in GoCar services, and currently under trial in GoRide services.

“Another step we take to maintain our ecosystem’s hygiene is applying the protocols for our GoFood merchant partners. We call on our GoFood merchants to provide washstands and hand sanitizer for our driver partners to wash their hands before picking up the orders, thus keeping these items hygienic,” Nila explained.

“In our GoFood services, we also curate our culinary merchant partners, who have consistently enforced health and hygiene standards such as wearing face masks, checking their employees’ body temperatures regularly and using safety seals to pack the orders in their respective outlets,” she continued.

Safeguarding the ecosystem

The safety pillar, meanwhile, entails Gojek’s efforts to safeguard the health and safety of its ecosystem. Gojek was the first on-demand app in Indonesia to introduce the real-time status of the driver’s body temperature and vehicle disinfection on the app. This breakthrough initiative seeks to give Gojek passengers peace of mind as they run their errands.

The other measures that Gojek has taken in this safety realm is the Protect Shield in its GoCar services, to protect both the drivers and passengers from the risk of contracting the coronavirus, adding an extra protection layer to the face masks that both drivers and passengers are already wearing.

Currently, Gojek is conducting a trial on the Protect Shield installation for its two-wheeled GoRide services.

The Protect Shield barrier is just another measure Gojek has taken to strictly adhere to health and hygiene protection standards amid the pandemic.

Gojek has also taken basic measures such as mandating its drivers to wear face masks, encouraging the use of gloves and calling on passengers to bring their own national standard (SNI)-certified helmets.

The superapp also provides convenient waiting rooms for customers, equipped with hygiene facilities and applying the physical-distancing protocols, dubbed Zona NyAman J3K (J3K Comfort Zones).

GoFood, meanwhile, is stepping up on its safety measures by launching its pick-up services for customers who would like to pick up their own food at the merchants’ outlets to avoid large social crowds.

GoFood also offers a contactless delivery option with instant text feature for drivers and customers.  Such a feature is also available on GoSend, GoShop and GoMart services. Gojek has also been providing a variety of entertainment content through its GoPlay, GoTix and GoGames services for convenient and safe leisure activity options.

“We also encourage our customers to prioritize cashless transactions by using GoPay digital wallet services to minimize physical contact, be it within Gojek services or in other online or offline merchants,” Nila said.
