For safe travel, 8,000 GoCars equipped with Sharp air purifiers

April 2021, 25

Prioritizing health and hygiene remains paramount as the pandemic enters its second year. Even though COVID-19 cases have dropped in Indonesia, people still need to be vigilant and stay safe when they are out of the house.

Besides wearing face masks and implementing social distancing, which have become a new normal, maintaining clean air in our surroundings is also important to keep us safe from COVID-19.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), people in closed rooms with minimal air circulation are more susceptible to exposure to the virus. When open windows are not possible, the use of air purifiers can be an effective way to improve the quality of air and reduce contamination with dust, bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms.

Recently, on-demand application Gojek has equipped 8,000 cars in its Greater Jakarta GoCar fleet with Sharp air purifiers to ensure the safety of its customers and driver partners. The installation of air purifiers in GoCars is considered the largest move in the online transportation industry to date.

As the online transportation service with the highest rated health protocols in the industry, this initiative is a continuation of Gojek’s Jaga Kesehatan, Kebersihan, dan Keamanan (J3K) health protocols, which have been in place since the start of the pandemic.

The on-demand application has collaborated with Sharp, whose air purifiers are claimed to be able to neutralize airborne COVID-19 viruses by up to more than 90 percent within 30 seconds.

Gojek Head of Global Transport Marketing Amanda Parikesit said in a statement that innovation in safety and comfort had always been a part of the company’s DNA, especially during the pandemic.

“With the various innovations and health kits Gojek has rolled out, we hope that the free installation of Sharp air purifiers will strengthen our efforts to support the protection and safety of both customers and driver partners as we wait for all segments of society to be vaccinated,” she said.

Amanda added that Sharp air purifiers could increase the safety solutions for customers who wished to travel using GoCar, especially during Ramadan and Idul Fitri, when socializing usually becomes more frequent.

PT Sharp Electronics Indonesia National Sales Senior General Manager Andry Adi Utomo said the air purifiers’ Plasmacluster technology was a world-first in successfully reducing the risk of airborne SARS-CoV-2 in clinical tests, noting that the technology would be very useful in increasing safety for transportation services like GoCar.

“We are proud to collaborate with Gojek as the largest online transportation service provider in Indonesia. Gojek’s commitment to maintaining the health, hygiene and safety of its ecosystem is aligned with our vision and mission to contribute to the Indonesian people through our technology and products, which in this case is to offer protection to our loyal consumers in their daily lives, as we are sure that they too are loyal GoCar customers.”

Along with the air purifiers in its fleet, Gojek, through its J3K initiative, also implements strict health protocols through three main pillars: technology through features such as mask verification health protocol compliance reports, infrastructure such as protective partitions and Zona NyAman J3K and education through vaccine-related educational materials and the #PesanDariRumah campaign.
