With the COVID-19 pandemic still on the rise in Indonesia, the government's efforts have been focused on stepping up the vaccination rate to better protect the population.

Yet with a total population of 270 million, it is clear that the government’s target of 2 million people inoculated per day will require the collaborative efforts of every stakeholder across the country.

As part of its commitment to eradicate COVID-19 through collaboration, digital on-demand service platform Gojek has been invited by the Jakarta Police to support the Vaksinasi Merdeka (Independence Vaccination) program, a vaccination drive aimed at providing easier access to vaccines for the people in Jakarta.

From Aug. 1 to 17, the Gojek ecosystem ranging from transportation services to event management technology will be in full swing to support the Jakarta Police’s target of vaccinating 3 million Jakartans in the space of 17 days, with a total of 900 vaccination spots across the capital.

The support for the Vaksinasi Merdeka program is part of the #BangkitBersama (RiseTogether) movement initiated by GoTo, the largest Indonesian tech group that combines on-demand service, e-commerce and financial services through Gojek, Tokopedia and GoTo Financial.

The #BangkitBersama movement combines mobility solutions, e-commerce and financial services in the GoTo ecosystem to help Indonesians, including MSMEs and informal sector workers, to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic along with accelerating the growth of the local economy.

Gojek co-founder and CEO Kevin Aluwi said that since the start of the pandemic, Gojek had consistently supported the Indonesian government’s efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19.

“The collaboration with the Jakarta Police is an initiative with Gojek’s #BangkitBersama spirit to become even more robust in a time filled with challenges, especially for the people of Jakarta. We are very proud to work with the Jakarta Police by supporting this innovative initiative.

“We have gone through a difficult one and a half years, and even though it’s not easy, we have and will always provide solutions and help the people as much as we can. One thing is for sure, every service in the Gojek ecosystem is always ready to help you,” he said.

The Gojek ecosystem will provide support to the Vaksinasi Merdeka program through its services, such as providing free GoRide and GoCar rides for 5,000 volunteers through GoCorp, allowing easy mobility for volunteers across all 900 vaccination spots. Volunteers can select the payment method of GoCorp to access free rides to and from vaccination locations from Aug. 1 to 17 for the first dose, which will also continue for the second dose.

Gojek, through its digital wallet GoPay, will also distribute the Jakarta Police’s incentive of Rp 100,000/day for each volunteer.

At the same time, Gojek’s support is also extended to the general public, who can easily register for their preferred vaccination schedule through the LOKET website as well as the GoTix page in the Gojek app. Participants can simply show vaccination officials the eVoucher sent via email, allowing them to go at a predetermined time so as to avoid long lines.

The public can also make use of the #GOJEKPEDULI discount voucher worth up to Rp 85,000 for GoRide and GoCar rides to and from vaccination locations, where hundreds of participants will be given GoFood vouchers worth Rp 100,000 after completing their vaccination.

Along with providing ease of access for health workers and the public, the Vaksinasi Merdeka program is also open to Gojek’s driver-partners at all 900 locations. Previously, GoTix and the Jakarta Police had also opened the National COVID-19 Vaccination Center at the Jakarta Convention Center in Senayan, where thousands of Gojek driver-partners have been successfully inoculated.

“These initiatives have added to our list of driver-partner vaccinations, where hundreds of thousands of Gojek driver-partners across 74 cities and regencies have been vaccinated,” Kevin added.

In a statement, Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Mohammad Fadil Imran expressed the Police’s appreciation of Gojek’s comprehensive support for the Vaksinasi Merdeka program.

“Through Gojek’s services that have been widely used by Indonesians, we are optimistic that the Vaksinasi Merdeka program will run smoothly so that we can achieve the national target of 2 million vaccinations per day. We hope more people will be inspired by Gojek’s sustained commitment to reducing the COVID-19 pandemic’s effects,” he said.

Along with providing free trips and discounts, Gojek’s services have also implemented #ProteksiEkstra to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers and driver-partners, including a mask verification feature for driver-partners, protective barriers for its GoRide and GoCar fleet, installing air purifiers in thousands of GoCar vehicles in the Greater Jakarta area, and displaying the vaccination status of driver-partners in the latest Gojek app version.
