Gojek, Tokopedia, GoPay disburse Rp 5b for Indonesian athletes, officials

As the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games drew to a close on Sunday, Indonesian athletes amazed the nation with their top-tier performance, bringing home stellar results from the world’s top multisport event that are sure to go down in history.

Gojek, Tokopedia and GoPay extend their most heartfelt appreciation to the Indonesian Olympic team for all their accomplishments at Tokyo 2020.

The tech companies believe that the athletes’ remarkable performance of on the “battlefield” stand on the shoulders of the unsung people who stayed far from the media spotlight, including their coaches, physiotherapists, massage therapists and sports doctors.

As a token of their appreciation, Gojek, Tokopedia and GoPay are providing one year of free services across their platforms, worth more than Rp 5 billion (US$350,000), to the athletes, coaches and officials of Indonesia’s Olympic delegation.

These services comprise monthly vouchers worth Rp 1 million for GoFood, GoSend and GoCar services, free GoPay credit of Rp 1 million per month, an upgrade to the highest “Anak Sultan” level in Gojek’s GoClub loyalty program, and an upgrade to the highest “Diamond” level in Tokopedia’s TokoPoints loyalty program, along with free delivery services.

Gojek cofounder and CEO Kevin Aluwi congratulated the Indonesian team in a statement, thanking them for their persistence, commitment, collaboration and gotong royong (mutual cooperation) spirit in making their sporting achievements under the nation’s flag.

“We believe that they are living proof that we, as a nation, can mutually cooperate to rise together under any circumstance,” Kevin said.

“As a unity, the role of every team member is very important, from the team’s chef de mission, to the Indonesian Olympics Committee, the coaches who continuously train, support and advise [the athletes], the doctors and nutritionists [who are] on hand to ensure [the athletes’] physical and mental health, along with a balanced nutritional intake, the physiotherapists who keep everyone fit, [and] to every athlete who competes on the field,” he continued.

Tokopedia cofounder and CEO William Tanuwijaya added that amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the Indonesian athletes’ endeavors and achievements had given the nation the spirit and hope to rise and shine together.

“Even though most of us can only cheer from a distance, the support of Indonesians flows freely, everywhere and at any time. This spirit inspires us as an Indonesian company to provide our highest form of appreciation to every Indonesian athlete and official who has strived to make the country proud,” William said.
