Gojek disburses additional funding to driver-partners, reaching Rp 260 billion

October 2021, 06

Even as the country’s COVID-19 cases decline, online on-demand service platform Gojek has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the company’s partners in the face of COVID-19 and its challenges.

One of Gojek’s premier programs is the Program Kesejahteraan Mitra Driver (Driver Partner Welfare Program), which started in the early days of the pandemic, March 2020.

On Gojek’s 11th anniversary, the company disbursed more than Rp 17 billion in additional funding for the program. The money, which was directly disbursed to the e-wallets of driver-partners who had been vaccinated against COVID-19, was intended to help driver-partners purchase daily necessities and groceries for their families.

From March 2020 to September 2021, Gojek disbursed more than Rp 260 billion to its driver-partners in three categories: 1) basic needs in the form of additional e-wallet balance and vouchers (Rp 175.8 billion); 2) healthcare services and equipment, such as personal protective equipment, Posko Aman (Safety Posts) and vaccination posts and education (Rp 70.3 billion); and 3)  income assistance for driver-partners, including non-active partners recovering from COVID-19 (Rp 15 billion).

Gojek CEO Kevin Aluwi said that in the run-up to its 11th anniversary, Gojek was continuing to collaborate with its partners to provide solutions to help the public fulfil their daily needs.

“We are wholly committed to this collaboration, including during the challenging pandemic, one [facet] of which is Gojek’s continued support for our driver-partners, which has reached Rp 260 billion so that we can all #BangkitBersama (#RiseTogether),” he said in a statement.

The additional Rp 17 billion disbursed in early October 2021 is focused on driver-partners across the country who have at least received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Along with fulfilling the basic needs of its driver-partners, the initiative embodies Gojek’s appreciation for driver-partners who are aware of the COVID-19 vaccine’s importance in protecting themselves from the disease.

The initiative is also in line with the government’s acceleration of the national vaccination program. Gojek’s vaccination drive is run comprehensively by covering the important aspects of education, facilitation of vaccination and commendation of vaccinated partners.

Siti Nadia Tarmizi, the Health Ministry’s vaccination spokesperson, expressed her appreciation for Gojek’s initiative, noting that the support and collaboration of all stakeholders were required to accelerate the national vaccination program.

“Gojek’s involvement in inviting its partners to undergo vaccination through various initiatives, including by providing them with a token of appreciation, is an example for us all. Not only does the initiative support the drivers financially in fulfilling their needs, but it also ensures their health and safety while working,” she said.

Along with the three main pillars of Program Kesejahteraan Mitra Driver, Gojek is also actively involved on a regional level in running initiatives tailored to each region, including collaboration with small restaurants to provide affordable lunches for driver-partners, providing scholarships and training, as well as programs to ease driver-partners’ daily operational burdens.

Gojek’s initiatives are part of the #BangkitBersama movement under the GoTo Group, which provides various initiatives to help the public and the company’s partners in the GoTo ecosystem survive and stay productive during the pandemic.

“As we enter our 11th year, Gojek’s collaboration with our partners to provide the best for the public will be even stronger. Through our solid collaborations, we believe that the Gojek ecosystem will be able to rise together through these challenging times,” Kevin concluded.
