The Gojek scholarship program, which has entered its third year, is part of Gojek’s commitment to helping its driver partners through implementing various welfare initiatives. This year, Gojek is giving full scholarships to 21 children of driver partners in eight major cities: Medan, Palembang, Jabodetabek, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, Malang and Makassar.

The recipients, who have undergone a rigorous selection process since March, will be able to continue their education to Diploma 3 level at top national polytechnics, including Politeknik Negeri Medan, Politeknik Negeri Sriwijaya Palembang, Politeknik Negeri Jakarta, Politeknik Negeri Bandung, Politeknik Negeri Semarang, Politeknik Elektronika Negeri Surabaya, Politeknik Negeri Malang and Politeknik Negeri Ujung Pandang.

“[Since 2020] 45 outstanding students have passed the selection process and received full scholarships from Gojek,” said Gojek head of Indonesia regions Gede Manggala.

“This scholarship program, by collaborating with state polytechnics as educational institutions, has the consistent goal of producing qualified graduate students with all the necessary skills and tools to enter the workforce and have successful careers,” he added.

Soft skill training courses

Aside from nurturing their academic studies, the awardees will also receive training in soft skills taught by members of the Gojek team.

Gojek believes that these self-development classes will empower children of driver partners to have a better future. The voluntary service by competent members of the Gojek team is also a demonstration of the spirit of togetherness and willingness to support each other in the Gojek ecosystem.

“One of the government’s visions is realizing Golden Indonesia 2045, which aims to produce high quality human resources, especially in the era of global competition. We appreciate Gojek’s commitment through its Gojek Partners Scholarship that was initiated in 2020 for children of driver partners,” said Hendro Sugiatno, head of the urban transportation sub-directorate, Land Transportation Directorate General at the Transportation Ministry.

“This is concrete proof that app developers are giving their driver partners and their families opportunities to improve their livelihoods. I believe that this effort will help Gojek’s community of drivers and their families,” he added. “I hope that Gojek will continue to deliver more welfare programs for its drivers”.

Part of broader Gojek Swadaya program

Beasiswa Gojek is part of the Gojek Swadaya welfare program for driver partners and their families. Since its inception in 2016, Gojek Swadaya has offered various exclusive packages to ease the operational burden of driver partners, comprehensive additional insurance programs and other help for financial management.

The Gojek Swadaya program also provides additional insurance program options that cover both the partners and their families, including accident protection, health and partner assets (mobile phones, vehicles and driver attributes). Those additional protection options are on top of the work accident insurance that Gojek provides for free in the case of an accident while the driver partner is carrying a passenger.

Gojek Swadaya also provides access for driver partners to be able to plan and manage finances better through various savings programs, loans, and recently it introduced a pilot scheme of affordable mortgage installments.

The Gojek Swadaya program is realized through cooperation with company partners and the application service fees paid by Gojek customers.
