With its big friendly eyes and ability to carry a number of orders while carefully avoiding obstacles, it is easy to see why the robot captures the attention of both children and adults as it makes its way across the mall.

Nicknamed “Bellabot”, the robot is equipped with 3D sensors, sound detection and touch-based interaction. It marks the ongoing efforts of GoFood to provide the best user culinary experience by continuously improving the complete end-to-end food ordering process.

In addition to the big smiles and long stares that the robot attracts, it has a very important job as it collects orders from multiple outlets and drops them off at a single pick-up point, adding efficiency and convenience for GoFood partner drivers as they deliver orders to consumers.

With the launch of the specialized robot, GoFood, which is part of the larger GoTo environment, is the first online food delivery (OFD) service in Indonesia to adopt automated robot technology and will run the pilot project at the Kelapa Gading Mall Food Temptation food court in Jakarta until March 2022.

Catherine Hindra Sutjahyo, Chief Food Officer of Gojek Group, said, “This robot highlights the fact that innovation is at the core of what we do at Gojek. We are consistently striving to find ways to improve our services through the use of technology. The use of the automated robot will help us to assess how automated systems contribute to more efficient and more seamless operations, as well as enhancing our drivers’ convenience in the food delivery process.”

GoFood’s adoption of automated robot technology has been conducted in partnership with PT Pudu Robot Indonesia.

Calvin Lukmantara, President Director of PT Pudu Robot Indonesia, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration with GoFood.

“As a company with a shared vision of the benefits of technology to make life easier, we are looking forward to seeing how Pudu Robotics products can support Gojek and GoFood in staying at the forefront as the reliable choice for consumers,” he said.

Calvin noted that the BellaBot type used in GoFood service was equipped with cutting-edge technology, such as 3D sensors, sound detection, touch-based interaction, accurate point-to-point navigation and a modular frame, so it could stop at any angle and move away as soon as it encountered obstacles.

The automated robot pilot project supports the GoFood Multiple Orders (Order Sekaligus) feature, which allows users to order from multiple restaurants in a single delivery. The feature is currently available at 41 culinary hotspots across Jabodetabek, Bandung and Surabaya. As of mid-2021, the location expansion for Order Sekaligus had increased 8 times since its introduction in September 2020.
