JAKARTA: Actress Nia Zulkarnaen and husband Ari Sihasale are back again this year with a production they proudly call a children and family-themed movie with a sense of nationalism.

The movie, titled Tanah Air Beta (My Motherland) is currently under post-production process and will hit our theaters soon.

“We have already completed the production. This is the second movie Ale [Ari Sihasale] has directed,” Nia told reporters recently. “In terms of theme, we’ve stuck to issues surrounding children, family and nationalism,” she adds.

According to Nia, Tanah Air Beta revolves around the struggle of a woman and her children who were expelled from Timor Leste to the country’s border area with Indonesia, after the 1999 referendum.

“It’s about their struggle during conflicts that followed East Timor’s separation from Indonesia when it became [the Democratic Republic of] Timor Leste.”

According to Nia, most of the scenes were shot in Atambua, East Nusa Tenggara. Nia explained the film also aimed to promote Indonesia’s beauty.

Nia and Ari have previously done wonders highlighting the beauty of Papua and Central Java when shooting Denias, Liburan Seru (Fun Holiday) and King.

“We wanted to show Indonesia isn’t only about Bali,” says the 39-year-old. “We also have Papua, Lombok and other beautiful places.” —  JP
