span class="caption" style="width: 378px;">Javanese treat: Miss Universe 2011 Leila Lopes of Angola (second right) receives a foot massage and hair treatment in Jakarta on Monday. Lopes, currently on her world tour, will crown the winner of the Miss Indonesia beauty pageant on Friday. BANDUNG: Mid-level West Java Police officers reportedly planned a fund-raising event ahead of a visit by 2011 Miss Universe Leila Lopez to Bandung, West Java, during her 10-day trip to Indonesia.

According to reports, the officers must raise Rp 750 million (US$84,000) to bring Lopez to the charity event organized by the Bhayangkari Police Wives Organization on Oct. 11.

One mid-level officer told local daily Galamedia in Bandung that he could not ignore instructions to make the social event a success.

Lopez will be invited to attend the charity event held by Bhayangkari to commemorate the 56th anniversary of Bhayangkari Movement Day at the Graha Bhayangkara on Jl. Cicendo, Bandung.

“The event is not related with the duties of the police. It is just a waste of money,” another mid-level police officer said as quoted by Galamedia.

Dadan Hendaya, director of Esa Production, the Miss Universe event organizer in Bandung, said the tariff set by the Putri Indonesia Foundation was Rp 100 million per hour.

He estimated that the cost for the event, including the merchandising and VIP lunch, could reach between two and three times the cost of bringing in Miss Universe.
